Moodle 4.5 compatibility
Version 3 supports Moodle 4.5 core multiple choice, true/false, short answer, numerical, calculated, calculated simple, calculated multiple choice, matching, random short-answer matching, Cloze, gap selection, drag words, drag images or text, drag markers, ordering, and text essays. Images and mathematics are included in question stems and answer choices. Description questions provide context without using a credit.
File uploads, attachments, audio, video, interactive embeds, and third-party question plugins are outside this release. Questions that require unavailable media or controls show a preparation error.
Your existing response stays in place while an answer is generated. Invalid or incomplete responses cannot be filled. Check generated answers for accuracy: a correctly formatted answer can still be factually wrong.
Use Moodle's own controls to save or submit your attempt. If autosave is disabled for the quiz, save your responses before reloading the page.
Reload open quiz pages after upgrading. Version 3 requires a backend with the v2 API and an enabled compatible model. Earlier extensions continue using the separately supported v1 API.

How do I test the extension before a real quiz?
We recommend testing the extension on Moodle's demo site before using it on an actual quiz.
How do I use the extension?
Click the question text or its Answer button to generate an answer. Your current response stays in place while it loads. With "Fill answer on click" enabled, click again when the answer is ready. Otherwise, a validated answer is filled automatically. Click Cancel to stop generation; editing the question makes a pending answer stale.
What is the hidden chat box?
The extension includes a hidden chat box at the bottom of the page for asking additional questions. To open it:
- Scroll to the bottom of the quiz page
- Hold the Alt (Windows) or Option (macOS) key
- A chat bubble icon will appear on the left - click it while holding the key
- Close the chat by clicking the button again or pressing Escape
How does pricing work?
Quiz Solver for Moodle uses simple, one-time pricing with no subscriptions or hidden fees. You purchase credits as needed and only pay for what you use.
How do I buy more credits?
Visit your dashboard and click "Buy Credits" to top up your account.
What is Auto Top-up?
Auto Top-up automatically purchases more credits when your balance runs low, so you never run out during a quiz. Enable it in your settings after adding a payment method and making at least one purchase.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept all major credit and debit cards through Stripe, our secure payment processor.
What are credits?
Credits are the currency used to generate AI answers. Each question you ask uses one credit.
Do I get any free credits?
Yes! All new users receive 10 free credits to try out the extension - no credit card required.
Where can I check my credit balance?
Your credit balance is displayed in your dashboard and in the extension popup.
Do credits expire?
No, credits never expire. Use them whenever you need them.
What is an API key?
An API key is a unique code that connects your browser extension to your Quiz Solver for Moodle account. It allows the extension to generate answers using your credits.
How do I get an API key?
After creating an account, visit your dashboard and click "Generate". Copy the key and paste it into the extension.
Can I regenerate my API key?
Yes, you can regenerate your API key from your dashboard at any time. Note that regenerating will invalidate your old key, so you'll need to update it in your extension.
How should I keep my API key secure?
Treat your API key like a password. Never share it with others, and don't post it publicly. If you believe your key has been compromised, regenerate it immediately.
Which AI model should I use?
Choose from the compatible models shown in your extension. Availability depends on verified structured-answer and image support. You can also browse the models page.
What does Reasoning level do?
Reasoning controls how much effort the model spends before answering. The available levels and their labels depend on the selected model. Changing models can change these options; higher effort can take longer and does not guarantee a correct answer.
What is the Context field for?
Add context to help the AI understand your quiz better. For example: "You are taking a Biology 1 test" or paste relevant course content. This helps the AI prioritize the correct information when answering.
What does "Show loading cursor" do?
When enabled, your cursor changes to a spinner while the AI is thinking. Disable this option to be more discreet.
What does "Fill answer on click" do?
When enabled, click the question text or Fill answer button after generation finishes. Your current response stays in place until that second click, so you control when Moodle's fields change.
The extension isn't working. What should I do?
- Check that you're on a Moodle quiz page (URL should contain
mod/quiz/attempt.php) - Verify your API key is entered correctly in the extension
- Check your credit balance in the extension or dashboard
- Try refreshing the page
- Make sure the extension is enabled in your browser
The answer didn't fill in automatically
If "Fill answer on click" is enabled, you need to click the question text again after the AI finishes thinking. You'll know it's ready when your cursor changes to a copy icon when hovering over the question.
